Comic Review 1

This is my first review ever, and how better then to start with the first issue of a new comic. The title is DMZ and is part of DC comics adult or mature line Vertigo. What adult or mature means in the comic world is that curse words will not show up like sh!t, nudity, depending on the comic is common place, the violence is really graphic, and the stories told may be darker. All these elements of the story telling, and art work, can be found in DMZ, except for nudity, at least not yet.

DMZ takes place in the not so distant future. The problem is that the US is in the midst of a civil war. The two players in this war are, The Free Stats (New Jeresy and Inland) vs. US (Brooklyn/Queens/ Long Island). Caught in the middle is Manhattan which has been named DMZ, which still at this point I have no idea what it means. The main charater is named Matthew Roth, a photo tech intern, that happens to be one of the few able to venture into DMZ.
Upon landing on DMZ everyting that can go wrong does. Within seconds Mathhew is stranded on DMZ with very few options left open for him.

For an opening story and the comic's first issue does a wonderful job of setting everything up. Not to much information is given about DMZ, the state of the rest of the US, why this happened, and so on. The art does a great job of depicting the grittiness and dirtiness of the story, and also DMZ. If you want to read a comic without people with super powers, or want to try something new, DMZ is worth the $2.99

QUICKIES

Title: Gotham Central #37

This is a stand alone issuebeing told from a nonsuper person's point of view during the craziness that is INFINITE CRISIS. The story is simple to follow even if you are not up to date with the CRISIS. I myself am a big fan of Greg Rucka and fell this is some good stuff. The main plot is one man's surival to see his family and his journey home throw the crazy streets of Gotham...during THE CRISIS. During the treck home deeper thoughts are crafted int the story; one's faith, hope, friendship, and one's duty as a cop. The art works great for this story since the overall tone is dark, I mean this is INFINITE CRISIS.

Title: House of M: The Day After

We all have had things that we lost and can't get back: this is the story that is told in The Day After. Following the fall out of House of M, the mutant population has been reduced to a few hundred. Claremont takes you around the world through the eyes of familiar faces, and shows how each person copes with losing their powers. Claremont does a good job of relaying the story from a variety of people. The art work was just bad, many panels looked rushed and looks like little care went into the comic.
